About the Author

David L. Colvin is a lifelong learner, educator, and observer of how people think, decide, and engage with the world around them. After more than three decades teaching in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana—primarily at the kindergarten level—he developed an appreciation for how understanding begins: with simple questions, patience, and a willingness to look at things from more than one perspective.

Growing up with ties to places like Chautauqua Institution, where conversation, curiosity, and civic thought are part of the culture, helped shape his belief that thoughtful discussion matters.

Over time, that belief led to a central question:

What would happen if more people approached important issues by asking better questions before choosing sides?

Common Sense 2.0 is not designed to tell people what to think. It is a simple, repeatable way to think through complex issues with more clarity, patience, and perspective.

The idea behind the “Involved Voter” is not about agreement. It is about engagement before judgment—creating space for understanding before conclusions are formed.

Beyond education, David has worked in home renovation, rebuilding family properties following Hurricane Katrina while continuing his teaching career. These experiences—both in the classroom and in life—reinforce a consistent belief: progress comes from steady effort, practical thinking, and staying open to learning.

This book, and this site, are an invitation.

Not to agree—but to participate.

To slow down just enough to better understand issues, priorities, and trade-offs before deciding how to vote.
